Housing market should be starting approximately 1 million units in 2011 and about 1.7 million by 2012. Things should begin to turn around midway through next year with retail and hotels expected to see the strongest growth, along with health care and amusement and recreation facilities.
McGraw-Hill last year initially forecasted a gain of 11% for 2010, and that the U.S. economy will grow 2.5% in 2011. Single-family housing should total almost $130 billion in construction starts, nearly a 27% increase from this year number. However, that projection is related to mortgage rates, job growth and reduction in foreclosures.
Another big impact will be on the construction of new multifamily housing, forecasting a jump of 24%, when compared to this year.
